It’s not enough that Union Bank of California falsely accused me of Federal crimes and closed my account on me. They also decided to make sure that I can’t open or maintain any bank account with any bank for the next 5 years. I went to San Diego National Bank today to open a checking account, and they denied the account because Union Bank of California reported some piece of unknown information to Chex Systems, which is a sort of banking credit report. I have never in my life bounced a check, never overdrawn an account, and yet I am in the Chex Systems reporting system saying that I am a deadbeat.
The guy at San Diego National Bank said that I would have to pay back what I owe to Union Bank of California to get it straightened out. Owe!! I don’t owe them anything — the problem with them apparently was that I have too much money! I was sitting there with a $30,000+ check in hand that UBOC had sent me from the balance of the account that they had closed. A check that is now pretty much worthless, as I can’t cash it, can’t deposit it in a bank account, and cannot endorse it to anyone. I don’t know what to do — I am basically barred from the banking system. No one at UBOC will speak to me about fixing the report — not in person at the branch and not on the phone.
But that’s not all. I have a business account with Bank of America that is in my company’s name. I learned, after googling Chex Systems, that banks routinely do “sweeps” which means that they compare data from existing accounts to Chex Systems data and freeze, then close accounts that are associated with the same SS#. This will result in not only another bad report on my Chex Systems history, but one for my company as well, barring my business from the banking system as well.
Thank God my husband and I don’t have a joint bank account. He can pay my bills for me, but that large check that is in my name still does me no good.
We have been having problems with Union Bank of California since the end of December. Three attempts to close our account out. Never had any negative transactions, then just as we were preparing to close the account due to closing our business and moving out of state we were in the negative $4.66. The $4.66 has now grown to $413.00 in charges. The account still remains open. We were advised if we did not pay the $265 (which was the 3rd deposit to close the account) we would be reported to Chex Systems. You can’t prove anything, nor could the bank for the matter, by looking at the statements as all transactions are moved around day to day according to the banking system. The date of the $4.66 deposit shows a balance of over $700, all the negative activity comes after.
They have been accruing $7.00 per day charges until we pay the amount needed and close the account. However this is our third time around, we are not using the account, have moved out of state and re-started our business with a new bank. I just verified with our credit card company today, that the last transaction of $35.00 that was debited from the account a week after the acct should have been closed was “automatically re-sent for a $35.00 charge that was returned for NSF around the 15th of December. However, there is nothing showing we were in the negative during the 15th. In fact, no reason the transaction did not clear.
Now I am thinking this is all part of the game they play to ‘make money’ at the customers expense of money and credit.
I am filing complaints. What about class action lawsuits???
